Are you looking for some family fun this weekend? If youre into ghosts and goblins, make sure to check out Terror Park: The Final Chapter. Thats the terrifying haunt at Cooper Stadium, located at 1155 W. Mound Street in Columbus. This is indeed the last call for the annual fall event because, with the demise of the historical stadium, all ghostly residents are being called back to Greenlawn Cemetery. (Do you remember that the very real cemetery sits next door?)
And, if fun-filled terror isnt your thing, here are some memorable experiences around town:
1. Harvest Festival - The North Market, located at 59 Spruce Street in downtown Columbus, is celebrating the fall season with a festival on Saturday, October 4th. In addition to the markets wonderful food, gift, and flower vendors, you and yours will love the wide range of activities and live entertainment. Theres baking contests and fun just for kids. Register for contests by calling (614) 463-9664 or go to www.northmarket.com.
2. Ohio Renaissance Festival - Theres just a few weeks left to jest with a court jester or cross swords with an actual knight. This annual event, which plays for 8 weekends, will draw to a close on October 19th. So, if frolicking with fair maidens is your thing, nows the time to get to Harveysburg, Ohio. For more information, as well as discount tickets, go to renfestival.com.
3. Bebe Miller Company - Cultural couples might enjoy the this companys latest work which opened at the Wexner Center for the Arts on October 1st and runs through October 5th. Entitled, Necessary Beauty, it is a retrospective piece that looks at Bebe Millers own childhood in voice overs and dance. Youll watch in awe of the movement, the fluidity, of the ensemble. For more information, call (614) 292-3535 or visit wexarts.org.
4. Glass Axis Event - Ever want a glass pumpkin to grace your fall table? Well, this Friday and Saturday, October 3rd and 4th, you can select an artisans pumpkin or choose to make one of your own design. Glass Axis, located at 1341-b Norton Avenue in Columbus, offers classes in glass blowing, stained glass and more. For more information, call (614) 291-4250 or visit glassaxis.org.
5. Buckeye Invitational - My wife will admit that she cant walk some days, much less march, but shes a huge fan of the award winning Grove City High School Marching Band. (Honestly, Ive seen her get choked up when they play.) Thats why, you may want to spend Saturday, October 4th, at the Buckeye Invitational at Ohio State Universitys Ohio Stadium. It starts at 10:00am and will probably go most of the day. Thirty-two of the best high school marching bands will compete for top awards. Go and cheer on your favorite. For more information, call (614) 292-2598.
6. Robin Williams - If youre a big fan of improvisation, youve got to love comic legend, Robin Williams. Williams is playing on Sunday, October 5 at 8:00 p.m. in the Palace Theatre. One word of caution, however. If you only know this man from re-runs of Mork & Mindy or his appearance on morning talk shows, you may want to know that his live show is not usually a family affair. My wife was shocked at the frequent references to male organs and regular use of profanity. Were not the moral police, in fact, we admire Robin Williams talent, but this is not for the kiddies. For more information, call (614) 431-3600 or go to ticketmaster.com.
7. Columbus Crew versus Los Angeles Galaxy - What you need to know about this match is that soccer great David Beckham will be in Columbus for the match. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 4th, in Crew Stadium. For more information, call (614) 447-2739 or go to mlsnet.com.
